I am Betty’s daughter.
That means I refuse to be miserable.
That means I can show you better than I can tell you
That means I do what I’m supposed to do, just like she taught me—
not worrying about what others are doing, just staying in my lane and doing it with excellence.
I lost my mother 23 years ago. And I’ll be honest—the grieving never really ends. It just changes form. Some days it’s a quiet ache, and other days it’s a wave of deep reflection. Right now, I’m in a season of gratitude… Because I can see her in me.
- The resilience.
- The feistiness.
- The creativity.
- The way I show up and give to others.
- All of that—I got from her.
My mother was a woman who always helped people. And I’m so proud that I carry that part of her forward. As part of my healing, I’ve been writing a book. It’s for us. For Black women. And I’m gathering stories—your stories—about motherhood. Whether it’s about your mom, being a mom, or both. Along with the stories ive been photographing women and their children.
Whether your mother or child is still with you or no longer here…There is a page waiting for your story.
This is my way of honoring my mother, and helping you honor your loved one too.
A legacy. A love letter. A powerful reflection.
